"rooted in prejudice" is a self own. when we play chicken and egg we only have to go back a short time until the prejudice itself was rooted in safety. as it turns out the probability of violence increases as you create a more heterogenous society.
just ask a liberal who has a better country than the USA and they'll spout off a list of ivory tower homogenous white nations, generally places where alarm bells are sounding based on the risks of importing people of other cultures.
people like to go to far along this logic, and imply that other cultures are inherently violent. but statistically they tend to be rather non-violent places to live, its when they travel elsewhere that violence occurs, or when the west intervenes in their country that violence ensues. there are of course examples of how some of these places are inherently violent (places that still allow child brides, female genital mutilation, execution of LGBTQA people, etc), but as a regular citizen in most of these places nonviolence permeates your life.
