The phenomena which continued to expand was television and medias, along with wealth concentration/inequalities.
Maybe it's big tech and big corporate taking over, maybe it's people getting too much distracted... It could also be because there's no major crisis like a war and the generation following it.
Really hard to figure out but the explanation is out there.
