the pakistani story is pretty funny, many right wingers like to pretend that we have the same sway over muslim majority nuclear powers as we do 3rd world shit hole african countries.

well big joe said it, so lets do it with no reason whatsoever. shame he was a nice ass dude.

on the topic of community notes tho i do find it to be more refreshing than a hotlink to snopes. fact checking overall is such a cesspool its hard to really support any one direction, and varied approaches dont work well for social media posts.

We actually have a fair amount of sway over Pakistan, for different reasons over most of Africa though. It's essentially buying soft power. Pakistan, as you said is a nuclear power. They also have a large and relatively strong military, a good counterbalance in the region to Iran. So we make it a point to be very involved with them. We historically supported Pakistan while the Soviets supported India, so there's a lot of long history there.

Over the past twenty years, the US had provided more than $32 billion in direct support to the people of Pakistan. But our investments began well before that.

There's not that many countries in the world that receive those type of numbers. Israel, Egypt, Pakistan, others maybe i'm not aware of, but it's a relatively short list.

But anyways, this is a tangent discussion to the community notes point.
