Think you have a bias here that modern man is at the pinnacle of intuition and technology. Human are slow to develop actual jumps in technology and terribly inefficient at implementation. Couple examples.. Photography is mentioned as a great invention in recent centuries, but it's based on ancient concept of light in a box which many ancient civs had, thousands.of years in the making to get a light trapped on medium from those ancient boxes. Second, tech requires vast resources to manufacture. Those Lithium battery chemistries are great example, is there even enough to implement a green high tech society (No).
So, the point is AI is not as Boogeyman as many think. It's bound by corpus that AI trained on and physically limited by hard implementation constraints like metals, IC fab, electricity, etc.
I think the biggest challenge facing modern society is the evolution of our cities and dense urban centers as the paradigm of industrial factory cities began breaking decades ago in the US. These cities are where many of the top problems on your original list manifest. Disproportionately so
I will reflect on this. You might be right that I have a bias in regards to modern man. Although let me give you a short view in regards to my thoughts on modern man.
I actually do not think that they are at their pinnacle
yet. Which is what disturbs me how far we can go and what we can achieve.
More often than not, during tumultuous and unstable times, where the threat of conflicts, war and competition, technology seems to move way faster as there will be governments grants and help that gives us immeasurable resources that help us quicken our steps in creating new and advance technology.
My view on this stems on the fact that the Germans created the first Jet fighters in WW2 but at the end of course.
The mere 20 to 30 years after WW2, the competition and space race between the Soviets and the USA put so much attention on both sides that the Soviets sent the first satellite into space and the United States sent the first crew onto the moon.
The Technology that send the first moon mission is vastly inferior as compared to what we have now, semi conductors , computer chips etc etc .
This is where my thoughts derive from. But I appreciate your commentary on this will help me reflect.
