instead of tipping what you want there are these absurd demands, i want to tip what i think is appropriate and not get a look like i just murdered a puppy when i dont tip 25% or so

You have to be very firm and confident not to tip.

You are typically shoved a terminal in front of you with a question “how much would you like to tip” with options ranging from 18 to 20 to 22% and a miniature button of “No tip”.

I doubt people literally spit in your food, but they do make a drama out of it, getting visibly upset after “no tip” for serving me a freaking iced coffee in the Central Park.

Sounding European also helps as people generally expect Europeans to be greedy and not to tip.

I refuse to add tips to orders if it is prompted. It honestly bothers me when you see different % tips on a screen when you swipe a card at fucking McAllister or somewhere like that.

That being said if I am being served and a server gave me good service I will tip them accordingly, with cash handed directly to them. My wife and I were in Dallas a few weeks ago and stopped for lunch at a bar and grill in Arlington. The waitress was actually knowledgeable and helpful. She has most of her boobs showing but didn’t let her ridiculous fingernails get in the way of our food. She served me two beers and then never asked if I wanted a third glass. She got $50 for doing everything correctly.

The cashiers that punch the orders into a touchscreen then pull their phones back out get nothing.

I love taking the family out to dinner at twin peaks.

Got take out the other day and did this with no internal doubt in my mind.

Only real time tipping should be a 100% sure thing is something like food delivery drivers or servers as those guys don’t make shit without tips.

A barista expecting a tip for taking 4 seconds to pour a basic coffee drink can fuck off.
