I mean, the system recognized he was a threat, he was tried and convicted repeatedly. He was sentenced to prison and under the mandatory minimum he should still have been in prison and unable to kill them.
The democrats have made this their great social cause, to set allow criminals to victimize the public with no repercussions, to free the criminals already in prison, to refuse to imprison those convicted even of violent felonies.
And his father was right at the front of that movement.

hey now, sure he did mangle a woman previously, but he only did hard time because he had a TINY 17 pound dime bag of weed on him and 20k in cash that was clearly on its way to be donated to red cross (thus his hurry, lives to save). and he only used cash because he didnt want his dad to be implicated in charity work, he's not in it for the publicity.

The 'and' is soft on crime policies have real consequences, in this case deadly consequences with 5 young lives snuffed out. The system failed to identify this suspect as a general threat to society, even though he has a huge rap sheet.

In a fair world the people responsible for putting him back on the streets should be held accountable, at the very least losing their jobs, but doubt that happens.

Its a known issue with the catch and release system we have in the west. I dont agree with soft on crime policies as i support punishment that is grossly disproportionate to the crime that was committed.

and yet we're going to opposite direction. MN just passed a bill aimed at letting felons out of prison early by giving them credits.

Can confirm this as a MN resident. We have been on a terrible downhill trajectory between MN statutes, license bureau, and enforcement agencies sitting on asses. Seems to have accelerated since Floyd and COVID, yet no one hitting the brakes on lawlessness. My anecdote was felon bought car from me then skipped title, neither license bureau or enforcement able to help with known felon with warrants out driving a unregistered car. Bigger question is why the hell was convicted felon out and about to scam citizens? Especially with violent rap sheet and his crazy ass mugshot.

Another anecdote from Rochester MN, juvenal with rap sheet attempted to jump my Uncle and steal is wallet in front his house. Uncle threw down and eventually got the better of the youth (17). After, city social worker assigned to the moron kid (and his parents) tried to play an angle my Uncle went after him, or other nonsense to not hold him accountable. This is a pearl of the state, Designated Medical Community and has same downhill slide.

Another anecdote, co-workers from out of state went to Minneapolis to enjoy the city life. Typical thing to do is go to a Twins game, hit the light rail, then go back to MoA or another stop. Apparently the light rail is sketchy AF. It's always been something to be situational aware on especially at night, but now its a total shit show all day.

Downhill we slide. These are just a few of many anecdotes. On the adult side, MN state policy is to not hold them accountable, let them out early, deem things 'civil matters' that are clearly criminal. On the youth side, MN state policy is to enable criminal activity and allege victims are criminalizing the delinquent youth.

Nasty crash. Like a battering ram hitting plywood.

Prosecutors filed their charges
10 counts of criminal vehicular homicide / fleeing the scene which could all be plead down, stacked concurrently and washed away at the state level once again
but this time the feds with Anthony Luger at the helm jumped into action with "possession of a firearm as a felon, possession of fentanyl, and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. Mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to LIFE."

Notably, the congressman's son had "A Glock 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine with live ammunition in the magazine.
Over 250 grams, including over 2,000 individual pills, of suspected narcotics which field-tested positive for fentanyl, thirteen additional pills which field-tested positive for MDMA, and approximately 35.6 grams of white powder which field-tested positive for cocaine."
