I'm not sure an occupation is needed but I don't think we've made it a priority, maybe now something will change with all the attention.
In 2021, the DEA received 3.3 billion to fund their operations, while last year we sent over 100 billion to Ukraine. The literal accounting error is 2x their budget for the year. Maybe we can start with prioritizing our concerns at home.
https://www.dea.gov/data-and-statistics/staffing-and-budgetI don't know enough about their capabilities & high end tech but if they don't have access to things like UAV's, more intelligence from other agencies (NSA, CIA, etc) we should enable that. I think if we have strong intel we may not even need ton of boots on the ground but just have drones target known hubs, traffickers, etc. We're never going to 100% stop the flow of drugs, but if we made it so costly and hard that it drops by a large enough margin it'd be a net good.
