I have no issues with limiting the market to pump shotguns restricted to 2-3 shell tubes and bolt action rifles with a 4 - 5 round mag.

A shotgun is more than sufficient for home defence if that's your thing and there's no need to carry a firearm in public in a first would country. If you have it, you're certainly more likely to use it and that includes completely unwarranted situations.

Sadly, the amount of other weaponry outside those two firearms is massive that you just cant realistically eliminate it at this point.

I could not imagine how depressing life would be to feel that you have to carry a gun everyday in your "first world" country. The state of paranoia must be near illness levels.

but if i dont have a 20 round clip of .223 how am i suppose to pump so many rounds into a Doe on opening day that i cant even eat it?

for real, the number of shooters who don't feel confident with only 4-5 rounds, regardless of the context be it sporting or self defense, is the most alarming part.

about 6 months ago i was at a family event to see my wife's aunt/uncle's new house. after sitting in the basement for like an hour her uncle-in-law says "you want to see my gun room?". sure i said, i like guns, let's see what you've got.

i walk into a room that is no more than 8 feet by 10 ft with a closet. inside of it are at least 30 AR platform rifles, 20 or so shotguns, 50 or so hand guns, and a wall of collectors rifles (coolest part by far). in the closet are shelves that are literally plumb full of ammo. on the wall is no less than 30 AR clips right at the legal limit. probably walked into what i can comfortably say is a half million dollar horde, and that might be severely under selling it. asked how often he shoots after he went on a 10 minute lightspeed rant about each rifle, he replies "a few times a year". doesnt hunt, doesnt sport shoot, but has a retirement account's worth of guns/ammo just collecting dust while he builds his next AR. pretty wild.

If we can agree that automatic weapons should be banned, then a bump stock should be also imo.

it's a gimmicky thing that sacrifices accuracy for firing rate that mimics automatic rates. it's only "good" use is to blow way too much ammo inaccurately at a range, and while i dont want that to be illegal im also not gonna go out on a limb for dumb gun owners who think blowing 300$ in ammo is peak freedom. most of those guys can't iron sight a clay pidgeon at 50 yards with a full clip.

I don't believe automatic weapons should be banned and technically they aren't. You can still buy a machine gun that was manufactured before 1986 and is on the NFA registry, you're just going to have to cough up 20k to make the purchase. Never was a bump stock fan or one of those gimmicky assisted reset triggers, I've shot full auto before and after you get past the whoooo factor you realize as you said, you're blowing through 300 worth of ammo and not hitting anything. I don't think the government should ban them though.

I think NICS is a good system and if it was used the way it was intended it would solve a lot of problems but agencies on all levels don't report disqualifying events to NICS so what happens is guys like Dylan Roof, Nicholas Cruz, Devin Kelly etc who have obvious mental issues, felony charges, and or domestic violence convictions that pass a background check. If we were going to make a change in laws/policy I believe prosecutors and judges shouldn't be allowed to drop gun charges as part of a plea deal and to put those sentences consecutively rather than concurrently so that dangerous people stay locked up.
