What kind of therapist? Do you mean like a psychologist or a counsellor who listens to people talk as they lie on a couch? Cause you can set up some kind of home office. I saw a psychologist once and I went to her home where she had set up a small workspace.

Psychotherapy, yes. Some people do what you've described, but it's not for me.

Theres debate going on right now on the topic of remote work and return to office for many employees.

Remote

Where does everyone stand on how they want to work going forward? Ever since I transitioned to fully remote i dont see myself ever going back onsite.

Remote work is generally only acceptable for computer programmers.

For remote work to be viable the workers must be constantly monitored which typically isn't very feasible. People cannot be trusted to work.

I don't have anything against working from home, I just much prefer onsite work. And I have actually worked from home before, and I found that there were too many distractions, I could barely get work done. For example, I would get up and have some soup, or play with my ex-puppy. I just didn't feel like I was working at all, lol.

I'm the same way. I always worked better outside the home. Especially in university I'd often go to the library to work or a Starbucks. This does bias my opinion but every opinion on WFM is biased depending on the individual.

i don't have the luxury, and frankly the idea of problem solving mechanical designs with the shop floor over the phone sounds awful.

in 20 years it wont be a pro-worker topic, it will be a pro-corporate topic. workplaces are expensive, and they'll save money in a lot of places by having many workers off site.

the company next door to us went primarily WFH during the pandemic and fully transitioned to WFH + sold their building once they realized everyone could do their jobs just fine at home. saved them hundreds of thousands of dollars

WFH. Remote 100%. I am also IT.

But, we were told zero raises or promos this year and deep into 2024. Was told I was due for promo in 2020 and now this shit. So they get me for 2-3 hours a day and the rest I do my own shit.

Make 80k/year. I am also one of the most experienced on my team, so can basically answer any Q, so they're paying for experience at this point.

Really? Why did it cost so much for them to have their office/building.
