Imagine making this thread about left and right and not a out what's right and wrong..... This gentlemen is what we have devolved to.

That would be true if it wasn’t one party pushing against this. Tennessee wants to take away any “arbitrary,” age limit. Their legislature is controlled by one party.

The Wyoming Republican Party, however, is urging its constituents to oppose it not because the bill is too weak, but because it believed the bill stood to rob their constituents of constitutional rights in ways the "seemingly harmless" bill did not immediately make clear.

serious question though: If an adult were legally married to a 14, 15 or 16 year old, could the adult still be guilty of statutory rape for consummating the marriage?

Sex is not exactly the same thing as marriage (though they are strongly associated of course)

I mean in reality this isn't about some 50 year old pedophile trying to bang a 13yr old and finding some legal loophole to do so, sure there's always cases we can point to in a population of >340mm but that's not usually the case. In practice it mostly applies to religious teens who want to marry and not sin for having sex.

Data was unavailable for California, Georgia, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Almost 90 percent of minors who married were girls. Most of them were 16 or 17 years old. In rare instances, however, children as young as 12 years old were granted marriage licenses in Alaska, Louisiana and South Carolina.
Only a fraction of these marriages involved two minors. Most of the time, a minor’s spouse was 18, 19 or in his early 20s. Nearly 500 minors were permitted to marry partners in their 40s, 50s and even over 60.
