As a nonbeliever since birth, if and when I hear of the experiences of a parent or of parents who have lost a child due to the actions of a harmful member of our species, I sometimes find myself hoping that there is a place like hell, a place of unimaginable torture that certain religions profess may exist. Within my little thoughts, there really is nothing on this planet which can equal the pain and the suffering that a perp has caused to the victim as well as to the victim's family and/or community. Yet, I cannot will myself to believe in there being a literal hell nor that there is justice postmortem. I can only hope that the parent(s) and/or community finds the help, the love, and much, much more which will carry them through their life's difficult journey without their child.

with out God there will never be justice. I suggest learning what scripture is saying, what it means. what the message is. approach it with an open heart. read a gospel. read john a few times.

I am an inclusive nonbeliever. So, there is space in this universe for me and for you. Within my reach, I can only hope that the parent, relative(s), and community who lose a child will not have to carry the extraordinary weight of their loss throughout their lives. That they will, even if it takes a long time, find their way back to the priceless love that was reflected by the mother for their child within the news vid.

I am not a defender of Christianity, however people need to realize that religions want people to be good. They have to come up with certain fables and mythologies and sometimes downright falsehoods in order to "trick" people into being good. And throughout most of Europe's time, the idea of a hell really served that purpose well. People feared being burned and they certainly didn't want this for all eternity. So they kept their noses clean. It was genius if you think about it.

what if they were right?
