In light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, I think it's interesting to look back at America's recent military operations.

Invasion of Afghanistan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_invasion_of_Afghanistan - 13 deaths, 8,000~12,000 kills, Kabul captured, ~2 months

Invasion of Iraq: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_invasion_of_Iraq - 196 deaths, 7,600~45,000 kills, entire country captured, 1 month

Of course, the US suffered more casualties in protracted wars against insurgents from both countries during occupations.

Kosovo War: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo_War - 2 deaths, 1,008~1,200 kills

Compare that to Russia: thousands dead in its invasion phase, indiscriminate bombing of Ukrainian cities including civilian targets using dumb bombs and artillery, and defeated at Kiev.

In a neighboring country vs US moving its troops halfway around the world.

So, this is what the mighty Russia can do. The second most powerful military in the world.

The mistake that we're all making is that Russian culture doesn't value life. They will throw however many men are required in order to complete their objective and they will intentionally target civilians in order to subjugate a population.

But yes, Russia is incredibly weak and we made some serious miscalculations by overestimating them.

Yes, Russia's military is not nearly as powerful as the United States, and the U.S. military is specifically built for offensive action the way Russia's isn't.
