It is canonically recorded that when the one ring left Rivendell to be carried by the ring bearer into Mordor, it was December 25th.
There were also Elves, several snow scenes, and an old man with a big white beard.

December 25 is a major holiday for many in today’s world, but the date that the Fellowship departed Rivendell, T.A. 3018 December 25 (S.R. 1418 Foreyule 25), was not a holiday to the characters in the story (even though Frodo received the valuable gifts of Sting and a Mithril shirt from Bilbo that morning). Foreyule 25 in that year was just another “cold grey” winter’s day; the 25th day of Winter, in fact, according to the Reckoning of Rivendell.
One thing that December 25 in a modern calendar and Foreyule 25 in the Shire Calendar do have in common is that both are 1 week before New Year’s Day in their respective calendars, and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day were holidays in the Shire Calendar (and they were holidays in all the known calendars of Middle-earth). New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in the Shire Calendar were known as the Yule days, and together with Foreyule 29 and 30, and with Afteryule 1 and 2, made up the 6-day Yule-tide.
