Hello Everyone,

Would like to start the topic with a very open-ended post.

I have been deeply interested in the conflicts of the South China Seas for several years now, Political science and history have been a hobby of mine to learn about for many years.
Would love to see if anyone else on this platform is informed or interested in the topic at all.

Recently in the past several years, the Western Super-Power USA has grown bolder and bolder with their imperialistic tendencies to "Help" out with issues in other regions or countries.
A new pie for America to stick their fingers in is the several-centuries-long conflicts of the South China Seas.
This area has been contested by many eastern countries over the last couple hundred years and recently the USA said it's their time to try and "Solve" the problem.

I'm fascinated by the UN's responses and reactions to questionable decisions by all countries involved.

Is this a pot of water that's never going to boil over? Will it boil over imminently now that America is involved?

Love to hear everyone's opinions on the subject and where it may go in the near future now that it is officially becoming a global dispute rather than the historic quagmire largely dominated by China.

Its more about trade routes, silicone, and IC/tech manufacturing. Almost all of the worlds advanced silicone IC/tech comes from Asia with a few companies being the most 'precise'. TSMC is out of Taiwan and China has its eyes set on that prize. US and Western powers rely on Taiwan and other tech manufacturing giants in the region for consumer/commercial/military goods. I think this is why US and other Western nations are putting on a show (heard Japan and Germany getting back together). Especially now with EV being a huge part of this administrations energy policy/plan. Most of those goods come through that area.

Beyond that, the Island building has pissed people off, grays the maritime rules.

These animals have to be stopped at any cost. Chinese (lets upgrade to "Han") nationalism is at same level than neo-nazis.

The island-building has rubbed many the wrong way. Glad you brought that point up - A great example of how loose the international Maritime laws and rules are governed.

I mean what exactly are appropriate options to respond to that without abusing how blurry the line is for your own advantage.

Not sure how, but I feel a significant response is coming. Tensions are at an all-time high and only getting worse. It has been easy for China to bully the other contenders in the South China Sea disputes for centuries, but won't be as easy or simple to get America out of there.

China and America both are not known for backing down to anyone, and with the volume and diversity of each of their allies - A conflict between the two would inevitably involve the world.

So much speculation, So much to think about.

i dont think a lot will happen there in the near future

people tend to overrate chinas military, they have zero experience and none of their self built weaponry is actually battle tested

the only way to grab taiwan would be in a super quick blitzkrieg that is finished before an international escalation

and i severely doubt china is able to do that

I really enjoy the fact that there was some interest in this thread.

Thanks all. Seems difficult to find any political science topic or debate etc that doesn't involve Trump or Biden these days.

The idea that the Chinese think they have claim to all of the South China Sea is ludicrous. It's over 1000 km from Hainan to the Whitsun Reef region where China has been camping "FiShInG bOaTs" in an attempt to saber-rattle with the Philippines.

We should hold the line here. China has a shortage on food, so even making it slightly more difficult to fish would be an asset.
