There's actually a lot of sports women excel at over men, but most sports fans are men and sports caters to men, so they don't get a lot of attention.
and that makes sense, when you realize women were basically banned from sports for a long time. Women weren't allowed to run in marathons because "their uterus would rip". lol
Name me a single sport in which "women excel over men".
The primary reason fans care far more about the NBA than the WNBA is not some structural disadvantage based on past discrimination, it's the far inferior athletic ability and level of play in the WNBA which, in turn, is based in biological differences between the sexes.
At the top levels of athletic competition, women just aren't competitive with their male counterparts. The best basketball or soccer players, the fastest runners, highest jumpers, quickest swimmers and so on will always be men. And fans will always be drawn to the highest level of performance or competition that a sport has to offer.
Could women sports be bigger than they are today? Sure. Will they ever come anywhere near the popularity of the respective men? Singular exceptions might exist, but generally speaking, the answer is no.
