I’m 25 and most people my age seem to either be anti-god or some obscure religion or satanic (i feel they say this because its a trend rn to do satanic rituals or witchcraft-type stuff etc to make them seem “unique” but literally like >50% of ppl in my age range do it - mostly female - so they are the opposite of unique).
Its not just the people I’m hanging out with , as i hang out with rich, preppy, stable family people but also hang with outcasts , anime nerds , astrology weirdos, and daddy issues , different races , democrats, republicans etc depending on my mood and they all seem to share this similar anti-god mindset

Many Seem to become hostile when I say I go to church or even say I occasionally listen to christian music on the radio or say my best friend is muslim etc..

This seems new since 2012’ish imo what gives? Or is this always been the case?

combination of massive inferiority and self-deifying complexes. people love to blame the boogeyman for all their woes and assign any positives to themselves and nothing else - organized religion is an easy boogeyman to blame.

religious affiliation has trended down for a while now so it isn’t unique. most kids i knew growing up didn’t attend any sort of church or place of worship, and i grew up in a diverse area. only met other religious people at church really. as you said it’s become mainstream to be atheist or satanic. having any sort of religious affiliation, especially Christianity and Judaism, is basically counter-culture now in the west.

that said i never cared much if someone was religious or not, but your sentiments about people being outright hostile to religious people is definitely true.

Previous generations started the shift well before millennials. More children grew up with no religious affiliation or a weak one at best as the previous generations also departed from religion or their interaction with it became less.

Its probably a hodgepodge of factors, but ultimately I'd have to think education is the single greatest. At least in Canada for the most part The Church and Education Boards are fully separate now. Some schools might be called Saint Anne's or Saint Patrick's but they have no religious teachings anymore.

Now you have parents growing up in schools that dont teach religion and are receiving better educations of which youre thought about biology and chemistry and it's apparent a large group of people no longer believed in any divine forces above. If anything it makes it difficult to believe in anything above once you start learning critical thinking. Now that generation had kids and those kids will have zero religious affiliation.

I dont really care what you believe in as long as it does not impact others and you dont push it on others. But like many my age in our early 30s, finished high school, did a bachelors and did a masters or equivalent after, its hard to believe in the divine.

We should believe in something greater than ourselves, but theres many outlets that are not tied to religion for that, be it community work, volunteering elsewhere, etc. Work in general for the greater good.

You can have plenty of false believers, we have the proof right now with US evangelicals racists voting Trump etc...
Classical moderated Catholiscism is supposed to be safe, if you are not an altar boy...

No way: The real issue is mostly around the "citizenship motivation and quality" which is completely neglected in US.

Due to the accessibility of information and the emergence of social media, people are realizing how bigoted most religious doctrines are and the fact that it's impossible to determine whether or not God actually exists and furthermore which God is supreme. Also, the fact that so many Christians on this forum are virtually neo-nazis/eugenicists and paranoid-schizophrenic doesn't bode well for the future of Christianity.
