Mounting tension in the international community made me want to start this thread.

The UK, US and Australia have announced a historic security pact in the Asia-Pacific, in what's seen as an effort to counter China. It will let Australia build nuclear-powered submarines for the first time, using technology provided by the US. The Aukus pact, which will also cover AI and other technologies, is one of the countries' biggest defence partnerships in decades, analysts say. China has condemned the agreement as "extremely irresponsible". Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said it "seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race". China's embassy in Washington accused the countries of a "Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice".

This pact will make Australia the 7th country to have nuclear submarines, alongside the US, UK, France, China, India and Russia. Prior to this pact, Australia had a 2016 $50 billion deal with France for the construction of 12 diesel, electric-powered submarines, which has now dissolved much to the frustration of the French who have described the move as a "betrayal" and a "stab in the back".

France is extremely pissed about this because their deal with Australia will be succeeded by this.

State-run Chinese media, Global Times, has shared that this pact formation is being viewed as anti-Chinese and puts Australia as a "potential target for a nuclear strike". China argues that there's no reason why a country would have nuclear submarines without also having nuclear weapons, and that as a result of this China is now seriously questioning Australia's adherence to the Treaty of Roratonga. Presently, Australia maintains that they're using nuclear submarines alone for their superior technology over other types of submarines and Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison has said that Australia has no desire to acquire or develop nuclear weapons and that this pact is not in violation of the Treaty of Roratonga.

The Treaty of Rarotonga is the common name for the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty, which formalises a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the South Pacific. The treaty bans the use, testing, and possession of nuclear weapons within the borders of the zone.

It was signed by the South Pacific nations of Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu on the island of Rarotonga (where the capital of the Cook Islands is located) on 6 August 1985, came into force on 11 December 1986 with the 8th ratification, and has since been ratified by all of those states.

Nuclear submarines have to surface less so Australians can be down under longer.

Can we talk about how Eric Swalwell is still sitting on the House Intelligence Committee although it was proven that he had a lengthy affair with a Chinese spy, thanks to Democrats blocking his removal?

Let’s be honest though, republicans calling for resignations based on shady international ties is laughable. Like an antivaxxer claiming body autonomy, yet being anti abortion (wait a minute...).

Anyhow, I agree that nonsense and treasonous activities shouldn’t be tolerated yet here we are
