I think it's a remnant of the gay rights movement. That one affected 6-12% of the overall population, i.e. millions of people. During the fight for gay rights, a lot of think tanks and activists were set up, lots of people's jobs hinge on this movement. When gay marriage was passed, the movement had basically achieved all of its goals, so the activists and think tanks had to come up with a new, adjacent discrimination which allowed them to maintain their funding and influence.

It's because they have a foolproof method of gaining control over any target. Simply have a super hot 10/10 tranny hooker seduce a powerful guy, film it, then hold the video as blackmail over him.
