I think its time we looked at how poorly men are treated by society. Men need to band together and collectively check out of a society that doesn't value them by focusing on themselves.

Exhibit A, a gender gap in Switzerland where men pay 3% tax for being men if they don't join the military. Women voted along with a bunch of cucks to maintain the laws around male conscription and male taxes.

Swiss men who live in other countries don't have to serve in the army, but they're required to tithe 2% of their income to the mother country in the form of a military exemption tax. (The tax is also paid by men who flunk the physical or otherwise don't qualify for military service.) Women aren't required to pay the tax, nor are they expected to serve in the army--although, if they wish, they can can enlist as noncombatants.

Is it really surprising that many people prefer a society in which they are guaranteed to occupy one of the upper rungs no matter what over a true meritocracy, that is, a society where they would have to bust their ass and still have no guarantee for success or social status?

Conscription is more common in Europe than you may first realise. Estonia, Finland, Austria, Cyprus and Greece all have it for differing reasons

In the case of Switzerland, there are communities speaking German, French and Italian, as well as immigrants from Portugal and England. Military service brings people from these communities together. When you go through military service with people you form bonds and you'll have each other's backs for life

You would probably think different about it if you were one of those who know that a full meritocracy would see their standard of living and social status decrease compared to where it currently is. For a lot of people, this question directly pits their self-interest against the spirit of fairness or moral considerations. Since humans tend to be selfish suckers (myself explicitly included), it really doesnt surprise me that many of them choose their self-interest.
