Reenactment of last night:





Twitter banned Donald Trump's account permanently. He then proceeded to post on the @POTUS account, of which those tweets were deleted. He then moved over to the Trump campaign account, which was suspended. Another Trump campaign person's account was suspended as well for changing their name to "Donald J Trump".

Parler, the right-wing Twitter clone, has been banned from Google's app store. Apple has issued them a notice to abide by moderation standards or they will be banned from their store as well.

Steve Bannon's War Room channel has been pulled from YouTube.



My thoughts on all of this:

Also, Trump is indefinitely suspended from Facebook(at least until after Jan. 20th), and some Trump subreddits got banned yesterday.

Imagine if Microsoft came along and said "you can't access MeWe on windows-equipped machines."

I don't use Parler, FWIW, but I think my next phone purchase is going to be guided by finding an OS other than Apple or Android.

This. There's a setting somewhere that you have to... Disable I think? So that you can install anything.

It's your phone. They can't prevent you from installing whatever the fuck you want. Just have to turn off the setting that prevents you from doing so, and go wild.

Edit: Parlor specifically had an influx of MILLIONS of users and went down. It's entirely possible that if you've had issues with Parlor, it's on their end. I don't use social media, just relaying reports, but be aware, they do NOT have the infrastructure of FB or Twitter.

Actually, while you have ownership to the physical phone hardware, the software 'ownership' is a grey area. Legality favors corporate ownership of the software running on your little brick device. YES, you could geek out and flash a custom ROM, but 95% of people aren't going to do that.

Its getting even worse with the latest gen of Apple products too. The software will brick the device if it wasn't repaired by an official apple shop. Things like swapping components from a genuine apple product don't work anymore as the software is looking for serial numbers on the genuine parts now.

Big Tech is evil in a lot of regards. Consumer Right to Repair is a huge topic most Americans snooz on. Telsa is pretty poor at consumer right to repair as well. They are able to skirt around a lot of laws because they dont run the standard car manufacturer dealership model.
