It's your phone. They can't prevent you from installing whatever the fuck you want. Just have to turn off the setting that prevents you from doing so, and go wild.
Actually, while you have ownership to the physical phone hardware, the software 'ownership' is a grey area. Legality favors corporate ownership of the software running on your little brick device. YES, you could geek out and flash a custom ROM, but 95% of people aren't going to do that.
Its getting even worse with the latest gen of Apple products too. The software will brick the device if it wasn't repaired by an official apple shop. Things like swapping components from a genuine apple product don't work anymore as the software is looking for serial numbers on the genuine parts now.
Big Tech is evil in a lot of regards. Consumer Right to Repair is a huge topic most Americans snooz on. Telsa is pretty poor at consumer right to repair as well. They are able to skirt around a lot of laws because they dont run the standard car manufacturer dealership model.
