readers digest has a yearly "nicest places in america" thing they do. (if im not mistaken, rd claims to be non-partisan, but this feature this year revealed that to be a lie, 3 of the top places won for supporting blm.) one of those places, features a story that shows just how full of bs blm is. the story of one of the winners centers around a 57 year old black man who moved to a mostly white neighborhood in 2018. despite never having any issues there or wherever he previously lived, when he heard about the floyd protests etc, he realized 'oh wait, im supposed to be afraid!' and for the "first time in his adult life" was afraid to go for walks alone at night or drive, for fear of being targeted by the police. (the place won a mention because neighbors heard about this and volunteered to accompany him.) so, its not his life experience that made him afraid, its the narrative of others that made him afraid, despite having no cause of his own to be afraid.

while im sure there are some incidents with cops that were racially motivated, and there are some people who are afraid for legit reasons, i would bet that a large majority of people are simply afraid because they were told to be afraid. take that false fear away and theyll be much less likely to run away or fight back etc when apprehended by the police, and incidents with cops with bad outcomes will go down.

The last time I got my hands on a reader's digest (which was some 20 years ago), they were still a very conservative magazine. What happened?

It's a desperate attempt to stay in business and trump is the catalyst. Print media is almost completely gone

This is part of the reason I can no longer call myself a right-winger. On much of the right, there's a kneejerk reaction to deny or minimize the experiences of people who point out the dark sides of our culture. The MeToo movement, black lives matter, or whoever. They are all pointing to aspects of our culture that need to be looked at, understood, and reformed.

The right is totally cool with hearing the cultural complaints from uneducated whitey in Michigan or Pennsylvania... not so much for others.

Conservatives will in the next several decades have to make some pretty serious advancements in their principles in order to win over future generations. The only constant in life and politics is change. Those who wish to conserve too strongly will ultimately fade out.
