Summarized: the NRA leadership has been acting like union bosses, and they're facing having the organization dissolved.

I'm sad b/c the organization has done so much good and they have tremendous GOTV efforts. Alas, they seem to be corrupt as fuck so I'm a bit nervous. I'm not sure if there is an organization that can fill the vacuum.

Gun Owners of America would be the likely org to fill in that gap. They already have over 2 million members.

all the NRA does imo in terms of good services is facilitate hunter's safety and handgun safety programs. all the rest ranges from only a minor loss to a big win for americans. and it should be simple for a diminished NRA to continue with safety programs. theyve been cutting them for decades anyways.

It's a shame they forgotten their hunting and fishing days and have moved onto money laundering and lobbying. Still have old pamphlets and magazines from them that I like to peruse sometimes because they had some good info back then. Oh how they have fallen.

The NRA gets a significant amount of funding from "buy this gun and you get a year of NRA membership free", which incentivizes them to lobby for the manufacturers and not the consumers.

The NRA does what it promises to do, which is lobby for the 2nd Amendment. It has done that successfully for decades, and deserves credit for organizing support and running a strong GOTV effort.

It's unfortunate that they seem to also be incredibly corrupt.

the NRA 50 years ago promised to teach kids in middle & high school gun safety, the NRA now promises to put enough pressure on congresspeople that they're scared shitless to do almost anything. "protecting the 2nd amendment" is just as slippery of a slope as gun bans tbh. almost everything ive seen labeled as a serious attack on the 2a is a joke. oh no my bump stocks, oh no one single round is getting banned, etc. i know, i know, "that's how it starts", i get it. but the NRA's mission is just as much to create boogeymen as it is to fight them.
