So i found this funny video and it turned out to be not so funny as someone died here. On the one hand i don't think idiocy like this should be encouraged, you can't just stand in front of an oncoming truck and expect to be rewarded for your stupidity. On the other hand as nutty as that woman is the truck driver ought to have stopped. Did this woman see herself in the shoes of that dude in tienanmen square stopping a tank? idk

Halton Region police have charged the man driving the truck that struck and killed an animal rights protester last month, but the group she’s a part of is calling the charge “feeble.”

The 28-year-old man from North Perth has been charged with the Highway Traffic Act offence of careless driving causing death in the June 19 incident that left 65-year-old Regan Russell, of Hamilton, dead.

Halton police aren’t releasing the man’s name as the charge isn’t criminal.

“There were no grounds to indicate this was an intentional act, or that a criminal offence had been committed,” Supt. Kevin Maher said in a release Monday.

“This investigation included the interview of several witnesses, analysis of physical evidence, and a technical reconstruction of the collision,” he added. “In addition, video footage that captured the entirety of the incident was reviewed by investigators.”

Animal Save Movement wants police to release video footage of the incident. Halton police haven’t responded to a request for comment on Animal Save Movement’s statement on the charge or their call for the video to be released.

Russell was struck by the driver of a transport truck that was hauling pigs through the gates of Fearmans Pork meat processing facility at Appleby Line and Harvester Road at around 10:20 a.m. on June 19.

Driver probably thought the person would gtfo of the way like 99.99% of all other people would do when they see a semi barreling down.

Darwin award really. Don't be a fucking idiot blocking traffic, people should know better. Like why would you chance it? You don't know who's behind the wheel, you don't know if the guy is high or angry or whatever.

Let this be a lesson to all vegans. Not eating meat obviously kills brain cells.

I'm not big into conspiracies, BUT I do think some of these fad diets (vegan, no carbs, no fat, etc...) are all ways to literally make humans depleted of brain cells. Pretty sure your brains requires carbohydrates to function.

the video and the news article you linked are different incidents. the video was made three years ago and no one died there, the incident in canada, in which the woman died, was recently - and she did NOT just jump in front of a truck (at least according to witnesses, video footage was not released).

i'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but i do care about animal cruelty and the carbon footprint of meat-heavy diets. that said, actions like shown in the video are an incredibly stupid and short sighted type of 'protest' that never had a chance of achieving anything meaningful. for all we know the trucker could be a vegan himself (probably not though), but either way he's just a low wage working class citizen who'd probably have to pay for any delays or damage of his shipment, at least in the US considering their lack of worker protection. bothering him for some clicks on instagram or to feel good about yourself is just stupid.

with all that out of the way, he should have stopped regardless. even though i think he was initially in the right, you don't take chances with other human beings' lives, no matter how wrong or stupid they are. they posed no danger to his own life, they didn't try to enter his cabin or anything, they were just overzealous animal rights activists.
