While it might be proper to say all lives matter i think we ought to acknowledge the reality that some lives are more valuable than others.

If a runaway train was headed towards your station on a track that splits in two with two groups of people tied up to the tracks by duffman and you had the option to flip a switch that would divert the train from one track to the other (you choose who dies) who would you save and why (if you choose to intervene at all) in the following scenarios.

1. Male vs Female
2. Adult vs Child
3. Physician vs Burglar
4. Neurosurgeon vs 5 poor people
5. 5 people who are wealthy vs 5 people who are poor
6. Your husband/wife/kids vs 20 babies
7. A wealthy business owner vs 20 poor people
8. Someone who agrees with your political views vs someone who disagrees with your political views

I already know my choices and they're quite easy for me but I'm interested to know the metric by which our fellow pardians evaluate human lives

I'd let the the train hit me

playing God would eat me alive and I don't wanna see people hit by trains all day while I sidelined

Just to clarify this means you wouldn't intervene in any of the above scenarios?

If you could choose, who would you choose if at all and more importantly how/why you choose is what im interested in

I'm reacting like this is a trick question. We lack so much info in any of those choices. Like choice #3. What are the full stories behind the physician and the burglar.

Maybe the physician was one to perform illegal surgeries, or maybe the burglar saved thousands of lives by stealing the plans to a really nasty biological agent.


/e In choice #3, most I think, would choose the physician, but without more information... one could argue as well, for the burglar.
