Might as well have this debate again, cause the new CIA director was involved. Do you guys think America was justified in using enhanced interrogation techniques in the aftermath of 9/11, when we had a huge intelligence gap?

I believe we were completely justified at the time. They most likely worked, at least according to the people who were actually involved. It's probably not worth it to reestablish the program.

Dershowitz once contended that while torture could be justified in the hypothetical ticking bomb scenario, its antithetical to civil liberties. That much I concur with. Then made a novel proposition of a torture-immunity program by which torture could be allowed only if the suspect is set free afterwards with immunity from prosecution. And that made me think dersowitz was a fucking moron. I think the whole 'enhanced interrogation' thing can be settled with three rules: 1: No civilized society may torture as policy, period. 2:Ticking bomb scenarios don't actually exist. 3: If one ever did exist, someone could break the law and beat it out of the suspect and face the wrath of the law afterwards- either exigent circumstances could justify it after-the-fact or its worth throwing away your life. Otherwise its not justifiable.

I'd say that the bush era would go down as a black mark on american history, but I think those history books critical of it have already been written

Alright, I can also go with: torture is fine when used by the Netherlands against foreigners. Specifically from the US.
