My brother came home from Vegas the day after the massacre, I sat down with him and talked to him about what had happened. He gave me a full step by step description of what happened and what he and the people around him did. I want to share this story with everyone, because I want everyone to know about how people were stepping up to help one another when this tragic occurrence took place. I've posted the story on my facebook page in hopes of possibly coming into contact with some of the people who my brother encountered on that day, and I am going to paste my entire post into this thread

So this is something I want to get out for everyone to see, because all I've seen on the news from the awful event in Vegas is the name and image of the asshole who decided to murder and injure hundreds of innocent people who were out in Vegas to have a fun time with their friends and family.

The picture I am sharing in this post is my brother Matt (in the superman shirt), he really stepped up on Sunday night. My brother had the unfortunate experience of attending the October 1st event in which this awful massacre took place. I am a firm believer that the greatest method of keeping evil in check are the immediate and swift acts of good by ordinary folks, and that is what I want to talk about in this post. This is the side of this awful day that I want to share with the world. I want to note that I was not at this event, everything that I am writing here is my brother's first hand experience as he described it to me. This is entirely second hand from my perspective

My brother was enjoying the Sunday night concert with his friends when he heard a loud popping sound that he initially thought were fireworks. The popping sound continued, and some people began to panic, but it wasn't until the performers on stage ran for cover that things got chaotic. Attendees began shouting that people had been shot, and people all around were in a complete panic. While many people were ducking as people all around were getting hit with bullets(some "within arms' reach" of my brother), my brother's instinct was to stay on his feet, and prevent himself and others from getting trampled, as he could see what was happening all around him. When my brother saw the opportune moment, his next instinct was to get out of there fast. It was along his way out of the venue that my brother encountered many people who had been injured or killed. My brother immediately stopped to help as many people as he could, even as his friend pleaded with him to get out of there

From what my brother described to me, he assisted complete strangers in carrying one victim to safety, and he used his shirt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding coming out of their leg wound (it was a dark purple v-neck shirt). People all around were stepping up to assist the wounded. Attendees had knocked down the barriers of the concert to pull their pickup trucks, golf carts and other vehicles in to transfer people to emergency medical service. My brother and strangers all around him spent the next two hours assisting the wounded, and carrying people to the back of these vehicles to be brought to safety. He described assisting many victims, one person was grazed in the head, another had a bullet wound to the abdomen. People all around were using their belts, shirts, and other pieces of clothing to prevent victims from bleeding out.

The attendees and associates of the concert were the real first responders of this tragedy, these complete strangers were working together to console and assist the wounded. I personally wish I could give each and every one of these individuals the recognition they deserve, and I wish my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims who could not make it out of this tragedy alive. These are the people whose names and faces we should be seeing on TV. I unfortunately don't know any of these individual's names other than my brother Matt, who survived this awful experience. I asked my brother if he exchanged any contact information with these strangers, he told me that he did not. I would like to get all these individuals(both the wounded individuals, and the individuals who assisted them) in contact with one another, and from the bottom of my heart I would like to personally thank each and every individual who stepped up in assisting the wounded (including my brother Matt)

I don't know how I could go about getting this done, so I'm putting this message out to share with as many people as I can.

Thanks, I can't even put into words how grateful I am to still have him with me, but I also cannot forget the many families who weren't so fortunate. When you consider all the mothers, father, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, aunts uncles, cousins, and friends, it's a lot of people who have been impacted by this awful event.

Thank you, I don't know what I would have done in that kind of situation, but I now know what my brother does, and that's a lot to take in. I tried to tell him how I was glad he helped all those people, but I was overwhelmed with emotion.

Your brother sounds like a pretty stand up guy. Kudos to him for helping those around him, and I'm glad he made it out alive.

i mean looking at the size of the crowd that was fired into vs the # of injured and killed and the odds were definitely in favor for your brother not being one of them but still

This is true, between my brother and his girlfriend they had 40 friends who were at the event. All of them except one made it

Thanks, the thing I want to emphasize is that my brother is just an ordinary guy. All these people who were stepping up were just your average people who were caught up in the middle of a tragedy. I don't care much for misanthropy, I believe that people are good, and that our love for our fellow human beings are what drive us to do good to one another. We might think we don't like each other, but when the time comes and we see someone else in desperate need of help, our truer human instincts kick in.
