I've talked about it with the current freshmen of my university (born '98 or so) and they don't remember a thing of it of course. Whilst for me it has been the most impactful world event I've witnessed in my life. My parents have said it might even be the same for them, even though they have experienced the moon landing, JFK's assassination, etc.
Do you think it's on the same level of significance as those things?
