Security sources said on Friday evening that the mortar shell that killed a four-year-old boy in the Sha’ar Hanegev region was fired from an UNRWA-run school in Gaza.

The boy has been identified as Daniel Tragerman. He was reportedly at home when the shell was fired, directly hitting a car that was parked near the home. Unfortunately, Daniel did not have enough time to reach a secure area and was hit by shrapnel.

Magen David Adom crews who were called to the scene tried to resuscitate Daniel but were unsuccessful and pronounced him dead.

The incident would not be the first time that terrorists have fired rockets from UN-run schools in Gaza.

The IDF has previously provided video evidence that Hamas fires rockets from inside schools.

Hamas has also been using UNRWA schools as storage sites for its rockets. Recently, a third such stockpile was discovered in a UN school.

After the first finding of rockets at an UNRWA school, it was reported that rather than destroying the rockets, UNRWA workers called Hamas to come remove them.

At least 90 rockets were fired towards Israel on Friday, with rocket salvos continuing long after sundown and into the Sabbath.

One person was critically wounded on Friday evening when a rocket fired from Gaza exploded in the city of Gan Yavne, in the Ashdod region.

Two other people were lightly wounded from the rocket, which reportedly hit a vehicle.

ISRAEL RETRACT FALSE ALLEGATION

Israeli officials retracted this morning their earlier claim on Friday that the rocket that killed a four-year-old child in Southern Israel was launched from an UNRWA school in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli news reports that the rocket was launched from an UNRWA school were false. The same media outlets that rushed to report the incident without seeking confirmation from UNRWA are required and called upon to also report the Israeli army retraction. We also call on Israeli military spokespersons and other official sources to ensure the accuracy of their facts before going public.
