2: Tributes.
When the first edition of the RSV was published, it received some glowing tributes, which I decided to include in my Book.
The Church of England Newspaper said: “The Finest version which has been produced in the present century.”
The TIME LITERARY SUPPLEMENT said: “A completely fresh translation by scholars of the highest eminence, with fullest use of the resources of modern scholarship.”
LIFE AND WORKS said: “The well-loved characteristics of the authorized version combined with a new accuracy of translation.”
THE TIMES said: “The most accurate and close rendering of the original.”
These publishers of the RSV Bible (the ones who got it about first in 1952) also paid some amazing tributes to the King James Version in the preface. It (the preface) says:
“The King James Version, with good reason, been termed “the noblest monument of English Prose. Its revisers, in 1881, expressed admiration for “its simplicity, its dignity, its power, its happy turns of expression...the music of its cadences, and the felicities of its rhythm” It entered, as no other book has, into the making of the personal character and the public institutions of the English-speaking peoples. We owe to it an incalculable debt.” (RSV preface)
These are beautiful words. Even I as a Muslim felt great joy in my heart when I read this tribute, as I happen to be a great fan of the Bible. HOWEVER (!), prepare for a shock; a shock which struck even me very hard!
From these 32 scholars of the highest eminence, backed by 50 cooperating church denominations, in the same breath, they say:
“Yet the King James Version has grave defects. By the middle of the nineteenth century, the development of Biblical studies and the discovery of many manuscripts more ancient than those upon which the King James Version was based, made it manifest that these defects are so many and so serious as to call for revision of the English translation.” (RSV preface)
If you are feeling pain at reading these words, I can totally understand, because as I previously mentioned, I am a great fan of the Bible myself! Please note that these are not my words, but the words penned down by 32 scholars of the highest eminence, backed by 50 cooperating church denominations. You can read this in the Revised Standard Version preface.
Even I as a Muslim felt a pain in my heart upon discovering what I am about to present to you, as I also happen to be fond of the beautiful literature of the original King James Version (1611).
Paul, who used to be the persecutor of the early followers of Jesus (pbuh), was on the road to Damascus, and he sees a vision in which allegedly Jesus Christ appears to him, and speaks to him in the Hebrew language: “Saul, Saul! Why persecutest thou me? Why kickest thyself against the pricks?” (This is the exact quotation from the King James Version, Acts 9:5). Now, however, they changed the word 'pricks' into 'goads' (New King James Version). If it is 'pricks', then it should be said 'pricks', and if it is 'goads', then it should be said 'goads'. This is the original language of the King James Version, but now it is talking about goads! Why goads? What does goads mean? A goad is a stick we use to prod cattle; it's a modern word from a totally new terminology that was introduced in the late 20th century.
Furthermore, in their revision, the Kingpin of every Evangelist/Preacher, John 3:16, was modified, and the word “begotten” was thrown out! The verse originally goes like this:
*John 3:16 “For God so loved the World, that he gave His only begotten Son...”
Before we continue, I would like to ask a simple question: How does God beget? In the Qur'an, God revealed to us that “Lam Yaled Wa Lam Youlad”, which translates into, “He begets not, nor was He begotten”. (Holy Qur'an, Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), Verse 3).
However, here the Bible is telling us that Jesus is the begotten Son of God! Yet (!), in the RSV (Revised Standard Version), which is based upon the most ancient manuscripts, the word begotten is no longer there! This means that the word “begotten” was a later addition; in other words, a fabrication!
Then again, even if this wasn't the case, and the word hadn't been removed, the following question still remains: How does God beget?
For those who are unfamiliar with the term (to beget), it is an animal act, and it belongs to the lower functions of sex. Are we to attribute such a quality to God?
Yet, the Christian says in his catechism: “Jesus is the only begotten Son. Begotten, not made.”
In my experience, from all the Christians which I have asked, none of them has given me an explanation of how God begets, yet they blindly accept it as the word of God! Quite interestingly, the 32 scholars of the highest eminence backed by 50 cooperating church denominations threw the word “begotten” out! For what reason? Why was it thrown out? The answer is simply because it was an interpolation; a fabrication; it was not the word of God. The King James Version has this interpolation.
Another fabrication which was thrown out is the only verse that resembles the Trinity, from the 1st epistle of John, Chapter 5, verse 7, which says: “For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.” / 1 John 5:7, Douay/Rheims Catholic Bible, King James Version.
But this is not in the Revised Standard Version of the Bible! Isn't the RSV the Word of God? In that Bible it's not there! Why is it not there? It's not there because the 32 Christian scholars of the highest eminence, backed by 50 cooperating church denominations, saw that this is another fabrication; another interpolation, so they also threw it out!
And we are not discussing just one word been thrown out! There are lots more! There are whole chunks and even chapters of this kind of discrepancies! And if you need to learn about something, you must go to the experts. So, if you want to know something about the Bible, you go to the Bible experts, and they are telling you that this is a fabrication!
The ascension from Mark 16:19, is not in my RSV Bible! I open up Mark Chapter 16, and I see that it ends at verse 8! 9-20 is missing! Did I take it out? Did any Muslim take it out? No!
32 scholars of the highest eminence, backed by 50 cooperating church denominations, they saw it fit, that this is another fabrication imposed upon Christendom, and they also threw it out! It's not in my RSV Bible; therefore it is not the word of God!
If the RSV is the Word of God, then the KJV is not the Word of God. But (!), I pick up another Bible (another RSV, printed in 1971), and I see it back again! It's inside! The ascension is only mentioned in 2 places in the Gospels (Mark 16:19, and Luke 24:51), however, ironically, when Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem, all 4 Gospel writers mention it! (Matthew 21:7; Mark 11:7; Luke 19:35; John 12:14). A lesser happening was not missed out by any of the 4 Gospel writers, but the ascension was only mentioned by 2! And again they are fabrications! What was thrown out was put back in again! Because when I look into the 1971 RSV Bible, which was printed by the same printers, in the same publishing house, I see that it is there again!
In the preface, we read the following:
“Two passages, the longer ending of Mark (16:9-20) and the account of the woman caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11), are restored to the text,” (RSV 1971 preface)
By who’s authority? Once again, the 1971 RSV preface gives us the answer:
“Many proposals for modification were submitted to the Committee by individuals and by two denominational committees.”
Furthermore, the 1946 RSV preface also says:
“The King James Version of the New Testament was based upon a Greek text that was marred by mistakes, containing the accumulated errors of fourteen centuries of manuscript copying. It was essentially the Greek text of the New Testament as edited by Beza, 1589, who closely followed that published by Erasmus, 1516-1535, which was based upon a few medieval manuscripts. The earliest and best of the eight manuscripts which Erasmus consulted was from the tenth century, and he made the least use of it because it differed most from the commonly received text; Beza had access to two manuscripts of great value, dating from the fifth and sixth centuries, but he made very little use of them because they differed from the text published by Erasmus.”
And again, here are more valid arguments: Would a Holy Scripture, supposing that it is indeed to be the Word of God, be filled with mistakes and contradictions? Would the Word of God be full of incest, hate, porn, and terrorism? Jesus himself says we should follow every letter of the Bible (Matthew 5:17-19), while Paul himself says that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine...” (2 Timothy 3:16)
Now, here are some of the bizarre passages of the Bible:
In the Old Testament there are numerous cases of incest! In Genesis alone, there are at least 3 cases of incest! According to modern-day psychology, the type of things you read render your mind into the same direction! Yet the Bible has numerous cases of incest! Since the human mind is vulnerable to such things, then why would God Almighty reveal numerous cases of incest in His Holy Book?
The first five Books, which are supposedly the Books of Moses; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy; these revisers (the scholars of the highest eminence) are telling us today that Moses didn't write the Books! And the proof for this is that countless times in the first 5 Books, you read: “And the LORD said unto Moses, and Moses said unto the LORD...” (All are written in the 3rd person.)
Furthermore, Jewish Scholars tell us today that Jewish Prophets didn't write their obituaries. However, in the Bible, we read:
“And there Moses died in the land of Moab.” / Deut 34:5
It says “died” in the past tense! The Bible continues and says:
“And no man knows his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses was 120 years old when he died.” / Deut 34:6-7
