No. Government shouldn't be sanctioning any marriage. The extent of government involvement should be to protect people's rights in relation to each other, and should extend to straight or gay unions. If you want to get married, do it in a church.

i try not to take sides but i lean more towards the right. i fucking hate elitist liberal assholes... that said, my more conservative leanings aside, i think all gay/lesbians are owed a legal partnership of some sort...

now that aside, marriage is based on religious doctrine and i think its a bit hypocratic that gays want specifically a marriage title even though most of them are agnostic/athiest and believe religion is a farce.

That's because the federal government provides over 1,100 rights and benefits for marriage and marriage only, and for the federal government marriage is "a union between one man and one woman".
