At least this new data hasn't been covered up and is being openly peer-reviewed. That's a step in the right direction after the despicable 'climategate' episode. And it's all observable data rather than merely projections!

You can search for the scientific journal published in Nature yourself if you're interested.

climategate was a non-story clung to by deniers, and the idea that there was no peer review on previous climate research is laughable at best.

Still trying to deny that it's a perfectly legitimate story? Heh, go ahead and keep clinging to your flawed AGW theory.

Since I've actually read the e-mails themselves rather than a few out-of-context soundbytes on blogs, yeah, I'm gonna have to say it's pretty much a non-story. :(

Climategate did not disprove anything to do with basic science. All it did was make some researchers look like dicks for not allowing GW deniers to be published in peer-reviewed journals. All of the crap has been explained away. anyone who still thinks Climategate proves anything at this point is either an idiot or not paying attention.

And also make them look like dicks for fudging numbers. What Climategate proves is that the main source of data used by the IPCC, along with the EPA, is basing major policy initiatives off fudged numbers. How's your religion now?

One of three major sources, the other two of which jive just fine. Because what appeared to be number fudging when taken as a tiny out-of-context text clip wasn't, ofc.

srsly just go download them yourself and actually read that shit

Reporters never get everything. A lot of the problems now are coming from mis-reported information.

Absent from the discussion:

Global dimming. Particulate matter in the atmosphere reflects sunlight and reduces the greenhouse effect. As crazy as it sounds, burning coal has actually slowed global warming because the SO2 particulate matter has contributed to global dimming. If we cap SO2 pollution globally or move off of fossil fuels, the effects of radiative forcing from CO2 will be greater than now because the global dimming factor will be removed. (all the better reason to cap carbon and sequester it because we need to quit burning coal!)

Also absent from that particular article is information about atmospheric particulate matter from volcanic eruptions at the period of time when the ice caps began forming. After the ice caps began forming, there was a positive feedback loop that allowed them to continue forming - they are white, and thus reflect more sunlight than ocean. Thus the temperature continued to decline because of radiative surface reflection despite the relatively high atmospheric concentrations of GHGs. Then, the Azolla Event occurred, carbon was sequestered down to about 260 in a very quick period of time, and an ice age began.

I can keep going all night with this. I am very disappointed with science being left out of science discussions.
