Many older versions of Christianity did not believe the soul existed at conception. This was especially popular during the dark ages of Europe because so many miscarriages occurred before modern medicine and to ease the suffering of the parents, and mothers in particular: the church took this stance.

Future generations may look down on the pretty much wide spread, drive thru abortions, since Roe v Wade as a bad thing.
