Vaal Breach is a colourless gem and can be placed into any item socket. It can be obtained by using a Vaal Orb on a Portal gem. This only works if the Zana map mod for breaches is applied on the map. The only other way to get this gem is by chance as a drop from a breach monster.

It is a Vaal spell so it is affected by a few support gems, such as Faster Casting Support.

Unlike most gems, Vaal Breach does not gain any experience and therefore cannot level up. It can have its level temporarily increased by items or Empower Support, however, increasing the gem's level has no effect.

While the monsters spawned by this gem don't reward experience, drop items or give souls for vaal skills, it is still a very useful gem.

Monsters from the breach still grant flask charges, and if a Headhunter or Inspired Learning Jewel is equipped, mods from breach spawned rare monsters can be gained. Additionally, on Hit/Crit/Kill or unique item interactions can be triggered much more easily while fighting bosses in a separated room.

There are more mirrors out there in this league than vaal breaches. simple as that.
Some builds rely on it and some people can afford it. Just because you can't doesn't mean it's worth is any less.
