I started off as an Asmodian Ranger before rerolling. Unless you can have someone to play with during your teens, I highly recommend that you don't do it. It's rediculous. It's not hard as in, you have to do the right thing at the right time. It's hard as in it's fucking retarded. Respawn? Dead. Creature summons another? Dead. I was hardly able to kill something my own level.
Chanters sound like a lot of fun, I plan on making one sometime. I'm finding Gladiator to be awesome (so far at least) and a lot of fun. I don't need to heal for long while, at least in comparison to my Ranger (after every fight).
As for quests, I found both factions to be almost the same. Some quests were different but for the most part the world is the same. If my memory is correct, after the first town for both factions, you go to a lake and then a forest. After hitting level 10 the surrounding area is very much the same, just a circular area around the city. Asmodian just has snow and ice instead of a swamp. The monsters are almost the same too, and so is almost every quest.
So don't expect switching to change the levelling, at least up to ~13.
Rangers fail till level 19, Then they get stunning shot, and they rape stuff.
