Just my two cents: The way you enjoy this game and intake it depends on several things. One key thing is making sure you have a good server.

Don't choose to play on Zikel or Nezekan. Nez is dead and it takes about 3-4 months to get what is known as "40E" PvP Armor. (Asmo side).
Free transfers are gone, and I will probably use a paid one. It's sad that people look at me like a pro because I have full 40E on this server (Asmo side), but the elyos laugh because PVE carebears get their full 50E in less than a month.

Love zikel elyos though, less than 2k kills yet full 50E armor and 50E weapon, less than 3 months play time, and they come out to pvp.
(Just saying, it would take about 2k Kills to get one of the smaller 50E items )
