I'd say botting in D2 and botting in an MMO are different on principle. In D2, while a greater flux of items affects the economy, it affects everyone equally. In an MMO, there are limited resources (mobs, nodes, whatever), save for instances. Botting and taking up those resources affects the people trying to play legitimately constantly.
Hello fellow old timer, I would say someone trying to play ***imately that wanted to participate in duels would disagree with your comments. However, someone playing the game even on Bnet that only cared about leveling and 'magic finding' would certainly not be affected to the degree that someone would in an MMO.
I personally have always chosen to use third party programs to do what i personally don't have the time to do so that i can be competitive in what i care about, PvP. I have never used a hack that would give me an advantage over another player directly, but i have always used programs to 'farm' for me and my friends. I know most people frown on this, and i wont try and justify the unjustifiable, i will just say it is what works for me.
