I started with 400x150 at 72 res

I simply put a font and 2 layers of small brushing and it was 130kb saved as a PNG

How do people typically go about all this?
What are things I should stay away from?

I enjoy making my own sigs but I wanted to do it form scratch and not use images off the net

thanks for help

Please post the image, so I can provide the best process of fitting within JSP's regulation.

I'm assuming it's a pop-out signature with the need for transparency, in which case upload the file to tinypng.com. This will most likely solve your problem.

If it's not a pop-out and is just a rectangle, then I recommend exporting as a jpeg and just lowering the quality in the export settings.

I can post the image but it happens with a couple different ones so I just wanted to know typical precautions to take

In that case, simply upload to tinypng.com and it will cut the file size down quite a bit without losing quality.
