It's aesthetically pleasing when a logo uses mono-weight for the icon and wordmark. That being said, your 'same weight' example isn't the same weight. The circle is very obviously thicker than the text.

True, I did it really quickly so you can have an idea. Your example is much better, perfect example of a icon thinner than the text and an icon with the same weight as the text.
