Hey, I was writing because I was curious what is the best program for editing GIFs?

I want to be able to import videos and turn them into gifs (for example, I have a couple people who've wanted me to turn their gameplay videos into avatars) and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to import a video and convert it to a GIF in Photoshop, I can make gifs from stills but not videos.

Anyone know a good program for this?

There could be another more efficient way, but when I was into gif making years ago, I had to first convert the video into frame by frame stills. VLC (the video player itself) can do this https://www.isimonbrown.co.uk/vlc-export-frames/
If you haven't used VLC before, is the swiss army knife of video players!
Hope this helps!

personally i use the command line. ffmpeg will split the video into a bunch of frames. then you can use imagemagick to combine frames with delays between them. it suits my needs since i dont want anything fancy and it's very straightforward, but i'm not sure what you intend to do with it. it's also pretty straightforward to run it forward then backwards to get a smooth repeat since you just need to duplicate the files from ffmpeg and number them correctly

/edit: here's what i followed a while back http://xmodulo.com/convert-video-animated-gif-image-linux.html
