someone i know at work is trying to tell me that mac has better software/is much easier to use compared to PC for making animations and whatnot. (on a professional level)

i find this hard to believe..though im extremely biased. PC surely has something just as good if not better than shitty mac right? :P

anyone know what would be the best software is that is available to the general public for making animations? for both pc and mac?

my google skills say a popular program called 3ds max is windows only, and if you are serious you need a "workstation graphics card"

thats impossible because noone programs good programs for shitty macs

macs are also over priced and dont have the power that regular computers have

for an equivilent of a g74sx, an out dated PC laptop, the mac version would easily be $5000

you can now get this laptop on the internet for about $600

this guy has no idea what he's talking about. the adobe suite is specifically written to be used in a mac environment, and so it will forever be optimized therein.

i'm not saying it's impossible to use photoshop or any adobe software on another OS, just that the interface is much more intuitive and smoother in the native OS.

well, those softwares for windows are prolly extremely expensive, and a few links someone posted on this other forum for workstation graphic cards were in the thousands

i really dont know to much about this stuff in detail, but i understand what you're both saying.

It really comes down to your budget, that's it.

If you have a lower budget, making a pc to suit your needs will be much much much cheaper and still effective. Find a good IPS monitor, Dell actually makes some solid high end IPS for a very fair price. You still have a solid workstation that will do everything you need while saving you literally thousands of dollars.
If your budget is incredibly high, go for a mac. Get yourself 1-2 mac cinema displays to go with it, because they are hands down the best monitors on the market. This option is really only for true professionals in the field that can justify spending the extra 1-2k on the mac and 1-2k on the monitors for peak performance and visuals to have every edge needed.

I work at a Mac/iOS shop so at work I have a Mac, granted its only a all-in-one Mac so its performance is pretty bad, but developing on a mac and the adobe suite on mac is quite nice, and it comes with the 27in cinema display, which is beautiful.
At home I have more of a gaming need but still do the same work on the side, so I have a tower I built for ~ $1200 and 2 23in IPS monitors that I got on sale for $135 each that get the job done just as well for less than the all-in-one with far more performance, but I do miss having the 27in cinema display, it really makes a huge difference.

I think you are unknowledgeable and not fit to talk about anything related to the design world at all.

The Adobe suite is made for macs like nick said and pcs are secondary to its compatibility.

All design based studios use macs. Graphic designers, video editors, animators and even illustrators.

Cousin works at WB as an intern. He told me that when he was working for DC during the summer there are stubborn people that bring in their pc laptops to work on the Arrow trailer for comic con but ultimately end up going backing them up and fixing them on macs because of compatibility and storage issues

I love pc but you really need to get used to macs if you want to go into it professionally.

Wouldn't recommend to buy one unless design is your profession and you won't become poor hobo after paying for it.

lol if you want to get ripped off and only be able to run certain programs, sure, get a mac

but if you want something that can do a whole lot more, get windows

that $14,000 laptop quoted is the same price as about 5 rack servers with i7, 6gb RAM, and 120gb sshd
