Everytime I make a popout and save it the damn edges come out all weird... like against a black background.
example

if you use the darker looking forum layout you will notice it...
don't pay attention to picture quality its a bad render

it's indexed like a gif even though it is a png so somewhere along the line you are compressing or saving it wrong

how are you saving it or what are you compressing it with?

Are you using photoshop or other program?
Also, do you use "save as.." or "save for web.."?
If you're using "save for web", check your settings in the window that pops up. Try using "save as" and select png.

**Photoshop**
When I use "Save As" It always saves a huge file like 300+KB so I don't use that.. Iv been using "Save for web" because I can Optimize file size.

When making a new file, before making the signature, then don't make the canvas larger than 400x150 px.
If you make it larger than 400x150 px. remember to make it 400x150 px. or smaller before saving it.

There are numerous "PNG Optimizers" available online and free software that can keep smooth edges looking good while making the size smaller.

Edit:
The settings you're messing with when saving for web, is what ruins the edges.
The reason your normal png files are that large are most likely because you're working on an image that's larger than 400x150 px, which you (probably?) lower when saving for web.
If you find the sig to be quite small while working on a 400x150 px. canvas, zoom in, or work on larger one and shrink before saving as png.

Set the resolution to 72. That is enough when not for printing.
