i need to convert a color image to black and white.

21 fg for the steps, google yields to greyscale, but not b/w

easiest way to do it in Illustrator:
grab selection tool (press V)>click image so it's selected>image trace in 'black and white logo' at the top>

note this will posterize the shit out of your image and will lose 85% of details
