I've had the same photoshop for a few years now. Photshop CS3. Never had an issue with PNG files until now. I'm trying to create an image with a transparent background. I have the original ps file and it has the checkered background. Just as it always has. In the past I simply made the changes I wanted, saved as png, and uploaded to imgur without a hitch. No background.

But now, I use that same method and I keep getting a stupid white background. I recently got a new computer and it has been one issue after another. Needless to say, I'm getting extremely frustrated.

I've also tried going to file -> save for web & devices, changing the preset to PNG-24. Transparency is checked. Yet as soon as it saves, I see the white background on the icon when I navigate to the correct folder.

The original file is also already set in RGB color mode.

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarg

You sure you're saving it as a .png? Because the image with the white background is a .jpeg image which can't be transparent (hence the white background).

The first one is a .jpg. So either you're saving it wrong, or the site you upload to converts to jpg to save space. Try uploading to imgur.com

use a different site, imgur will change large sized files to jpg to save space on their server

edit: they even compress large jpgs so they look all shitty

all in all imgur is really not a good upload site for quality images

imgur has gained a whole lot of popularity since last season

for other uploading sites you could try imageshack, photobucket or deviantart

Conor, you were absolutely right. The size of the image was too large and so imgur was converting it. I tried, just for the heck of it, to reduce the size of the ps file pic and uploaded to imgur, wouldn't ya know...no white background!
