Honestly text is not important. Don't feel like you NEED to add text to a signature. If it will not help with the flow or the overall appearance then don't add any, there are far more good signatures with no text than there are with text.

Actually this is not true at all. Text can sometimes completely make a tag, to the point where they are entirely built around it. However, it is extremely hard to master proper typography, hence why most people rarely ever uses it.

Feel free to experiment with text but just get rid of it if it doesn't improve the tag in anyway. Your text should be a part of the concept, not just a random name out there.

I'm not saying those are the best tags ever, but in those case, they really do look much better with the text than without it because they were built around it. Think of it as an extra string to your bow.


''Text is not important'' is just another one of the jsp circlejerk list of graphic design standards that mostly comes from the fact that no one can do it properly. Exactly like the whole ''animation is shit'' fad that's been going on for years. I've seen animated tags better than anything I've ever seen on here.

I've only done a couple sigs that focused a lot on text and I remember the text having just as many layers attached to it as you'd normally do with the render, it should never just be the last layer thrown on top with nothing added to it, or just a single clipping mask

E: I also messed this one up with compo because it's a bit too far from the render but it did have a lot of layers focusing on text and effects on or around it
E2: Blaine did really amazing text with his sigs and he has a psd pack floating around that you can use to see how he did it, his sigs are great to learn from as well
