its really wierd i cant get any image to have a transparent background at the moment.... even if i select the white and delete it it stays white, what am i doing wrong?

no this is not the problem, the background layer is still showing all white, if i click the eye to remove the layer's view it is still all white no checkered pattern

File > New > Background Contents > Transparent

it's possible you started with a white background. do you notice whether or not the layer has a lock on it? double click the lock to unlock it.
e/ if the layer is locked, you can't hide it by clicking the eye

i dont know why i cant get a transparent checkerboard background - the layer there, layer 1 is supposed to be transparent, it all still looks white even if i click the eye or if i select the whole document and delete, any other ideas?

btw i also changed resolution to 72 pix and rgb to 8bit it did not change the problem
