One of the earlier Photoshop editions is free now. Just go to Adobe and find the free download. It's superior in most ways to GIMP.

your sig is over the kb limit. even before you made it a popout, it was over the kb limit.
the colors don't really work. the render feels slapped on top. bad render choice imo, unless you went grayscale.
you changed the text. it still doesn't work, but the font is better that what it was before.

i'm not sure what's all available in gimp, never tried it, but the concept should be the same.
look through these resources: http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=57874419&f=246 they've helped me a bit too.

i'm curious as to what tut you've looked at.

@ previous posts, sure there are ways to get different versions of photoshop, but unless you purchase it, it's illegal.
photoshop elements is a relatively cheap version of photoshop. unfortunately, it doesn't have pen tool and a few other things. it's still possible to decently render something without a pen tool, but it requires more effort.
you can get the newest version of photoshop for an annual plan of $20 a month, which is still cheap. if you don't think you are going to use it for a whole year, there is a month by month payment plan, but it's obviously more expensive. something like $30 a month if i'm not mistaken.

well firstly, no one in this section actually cares about how much over the KB limit their sigs are
and second, PS CS2 is technically "free" since you can get it off of Adobe's website (with the serial code), without paying for it
it's outdated software and isn't being supported anymore
can't address your actual cnc though

Did you even read what he linked?

You're only allowed to download CS2 and use the keys adobe provided if you're an owner of a legally purchased CS2 license.
Yes, you could use it even if you don't own a license, but that's illegal.

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available.

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

In January 2013, Adobe offered existing CS2 users the opportunity to download a version of CS2 that no longer required Adobe server authorization. Due to Adobe's closing of the CS2 activation servers on December 15, 2012, this release allowed existing users of CS2 to reinstall their licensed copies without needing authorization from the now-closed servers. Though Adobe was careful to note that the CS2 serial number provided with the download was only for people who had "legitimately purchased CS2", many users ignored this warning and began treating CS2 as freeware.
