Kinda new to Illustrator and Path's and stuff, ive been asked to dublicate a photo of a friend but add a kinda artistic touch to it

I've struggled with the hands as it's a dark photo and not sure where to start with the face / hair..



I found this photo in the inspiration thread and wouldn't mind it ending up something like this ( this is hand drawn i think )



What i'm asking is that anyone know of good methods for hair? or even some basic illustrator tuts>?

I use a base path for hair then lots and lots of other paths for detail

I'd say this is a very good start though, would simplify that right hand however right now the lines are out of control

Yeah was struggling with that one, I don't know if I should export the paths then paint into photoshop or do you think it would be best to do it all in illustrator?
