Text, lighting, focal point, and just adding more detail...

Do tutorials. It doesn't matter if you like how the outcome looks in the tut; You learn a lot of effects & how to use them, and then can apply those effects to your own work.

Also, what's up with that green blotch? Doesn't blend at all and looks quite out of place to me.

If you don't like the signature the tutorial is based off of, you can still do it and learn the effects all the same. True story.

Like let's say there's a tutorial for a vector signature, but you hate the render/colors/think he shoulda done this that and the other thing... You can still do the tutorial and learn the technique to later apply to one of your signatures.

If the result of a tutorial is bad, chances are it's a bad tutorial and will only teach you bad habits.

There's a difference between a bad tutorial and a signature that's well done and you don't care for. As for the habits... If you notice something is lowering the quality of your sigs, I don't see how that would be hard to stop.
