Heya, I started drawing this week and i really like it... I have a very long drive to work ( on a ship ) so i got an ipad with artstudio + a stylus. So some of my (lol) pictures are drawn with my ipad, some with photoshop and a wacom bamboo pen and touch.
I'm looking for any kind of help, tutorials, tips, tricks.

I hjave never drawn on paper when i was a kid, so what i'm posting probably looks like your kids drawings :D

My biggest problem at the moment is the coloring... no idea how to place shadows and how to use different colors. I usually use 1 color for the shirt, 1 for the face lul.

if your painting in photoshop, use every tool to your best ability.

digi painters will use numerous shapes/custom brushes to save themselves time and achieving the effects desired.

as for color, maybe dont worry about color right now.

you said you've never drawn. so get down to the basics.

i think you'd make much more progress as an artist if you stuck with pencil and paper until you hone your drawing skills. there's not much reason to do digital paintings except to save paper and ink, of course photoshop lets you use brushes and effects, but you need to get down the basics before moving onto that i think.

Uh maybe, no idea. But i think someone who has drawn on paper for years can easily do it on photoshop ( only thing he has to learn is the brushes lightning stuff )
don't you think it works the other way around too? Like once my sketches get good on photoshop, they should be about the same on paper too? idk i better ask a pro, because you could be right buddy :D

*unclemuscle* should i start drawing on paper? ^^

i'm an art major in college, i wouldnt say i'm a pro but i know the field quite well.
any artist will tell you that pencil and paper is the best medium for sketching, even professional graphic designers often begin by sketching in notebooks.
your brain works differently when it works with such basic means, it's like a blank slate where your mind can create whatever it wants.
