ISO Photoshop tutorial on how to do popout signatures, like the one in my sig. Thanks in advance.

That is a basic example of layers and transparency which I understand but how do you achieve the backround like my sig?
I have experimented with making a black selection with random brushes, selecting it, copying from the layer with the background, then making the black layer a little large but I am missing an effect. Is it a filter?

The shape of your current is very basic and easy to do. Download a grunge brush, make a random shape with the paint brush, use the grunge brush with erase and just go around the edges. You can mess with scatter and opacity settings etc etc till you're satisfied.
